Eko Hot Blog reports that the exercise was led by the Executive Chairman, Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, who not only supervised activities across various communities but also actively participated in the clean-up exercise, demonstrating hands-on leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability.
Residents across the LCDA turned out in large numbers to take part in the exercise, engaging in clearing blocked drainage channels, sweeping streets, and ensuring proper waste disposal. The sanitation activities also extended to major market places, where traders and shop owners cleaned stalls, walkways, and surrounding areas to maintain a hygienic trading environment.
Council officials, environmental officers, and community leaders were also on ground to coordinate activities and ensure compliance. Movement restrictions during the sanitation period were observed, underscoring the seriousness attached to the exercise.
Speaking during the exercise, Chairman Akinloye emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment, particularly as the rainy season approaches.
“Environmental cleanliness is not optional; it is a necessity for healthy living. We must all take responsibility to keep our surroundings clean to prevent flooding and the spread of diseases,” he stated.
He also issued a strong warning against indiscriminate dumping of refuse along roadsides and in drainage channels.
“Residents must desist from dumping refuse on the roadside. Such practices block our drainage systems and contribute to flooding and environmental hazards,” he warned.
The chairman commended residents and traders for their active participation, noting that community involvement remains key to sustaining environmental progress.
“I appreciate our residents for coming out to support this exercise. Together, we can build a cleaner and more livable Eredo,” he added.
The exercise aligns with the broader environmental sanitation directive of the Lagos State Government, aimed at promoting public hygiene, improving waste management, and reducing environmental hazards across the state.
Under the Akinloye-led administration, Eredo LCDA continues to prioritize environmental initiatives through regular sanitation exercises, public awareness campaigns, and improved waste management strategies.
Residents have been encouraged to sustain the culture of cleanliness beyond the monthly exercise by maintaining proper waste disposal habits and ensuring their environments, including markets and public spaces, remain clean at all times.
With consistent efforts and strong community participation, Eredo LCDA is steadily reinforcing its reputation as a model for effective environmental management in Lagos State.
