FAAN Takes Action Against Immigration Officer Caught Begging Passenger for Money

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has responded to a viral video showing a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) official soliciting money from a passenger at the airport.

In a statement released on Wednesday, FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, condemned the behavior as entirely unacceptable.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the unidentified immigration officer was filmed repeatedly asking a tourist for money at the International Airport and even attempted to accept card payments.

Public opinion suggests that this incident reflects a broader moral decline in Nigeria, with some viewing it as a disgrace to both the official and the government. Critics argue that better compensation for officers might prevent such embarrassment.

Kuku confirmed that the officer involved has been removed from their duty post and is undergoing disciplinary action with the NIS.

“I have seen the disturbing video circulating of a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) official begging a passenger for money at the airport,” Kuku said in the statement.

“I want to ensure you know that this behavior is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the passenger experience we hope to provide at our terminals.

“The officer in question has been immediately withdrawn from duty at the terminal and is currently facing disciplinary action with the NIS.

“We are committed to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of all personnel working at our airports.

“I would like to ask all passengers to report any similar incidents or seek immediate support through the phone numbers and QR codes provided below.

“Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we will take every necessary step to ensure a pleasant travel experience for everyone,” he added.
