According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Command, ASP Nahum Daso, the police received reports of the incident at the Dikwa Divisional Police headquarters.
The accident occurred on Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Bakassi community, located between Mafa and Dikwa along Maiduguri Road.
The incident involved a canoe that sank in floodwaters, leading to the loss of four female passengers. The victims, all from Bulabulin Ward, Dikwa, have been identified as Ya Mallum Shettima, an adult female from Marte LGA, 10-year-old Maimuna Akura, 6-year-old Umira Alhaji Bulama, and five-month-old Yagana Bulama Kawu.
The bodies were recovered and taken to Dikwa General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed their deaths. The remains have since been released to the families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
