Traditional rulers across Lagos State converged for the statutory meeting of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs held at the Lagos Island Division, where discussions centered on sustaining peace, unity, and stronger collaboration with government at the grassroots level.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting, organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, was presided over by Babatunde Riliwanu Akiolu, the Permanent Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

During the gathering, monarchs from different divisions of the state deliberated on strategies for effectively communicating government policies and programmes within their various communities to ensure residents continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Speaking during the meeting, Oba Akiolu emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility toward community growth and development.
“We must continue to work together in peace and unity while supporting initiatives that will bring development closer to our people,” the royal father stated.
The traditional rulers also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening community engagement and supporting programmes that promote stability, cultural harmony, and inclusive development across Lagos State.
According to the council, traditional institutions remain critical partners in mobilizing residents and ensuring government initiatives are properly understood and embraced at the grassroots level.
Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, alongside management staff of the ministry and other key stakeholders.
Mrs. Bolarinwa commended the continued role of traditional rulers in preserving peace and supporting governance across the state.
“Our royal fathers remain major stakeholders in promoting peace, unity, and grassroots development across Lagos State,” she said.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances from the Council to continue supporting policies and programmes aimed at building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Lagos.
