The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has initiated the rehabilitation of a woman, Odunayo Eniola-Isaac, who was rescued from an abusive employer in Iraq.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, NAPTIP’s press officer, Vincent Adekoye, confirmed that the agency’s Director-General, Binta Adamu-Bello, ordered the start of a comprehensive rehabilitation process for the victim, including interviews and counseling.

NAPTIP’s Director-General expressed deep sorrow over the trauma Eniola-Isaac endured and the hardship she faced upon her return to Nigeria. Her rescue followed a viral video that highlighted her suffering while working in Baghdad under WB Warani Manpower, where she endured harsh working conditions.

Eniola-Isaac was employed by the company in January 2023 and subjected to grueling work hours, often exceeding 20 hours a day, with little rest. Her treatment worsened when she requested her due payment and was physically abused, including having her phone confiscated and being locked in a dog cage by her employer.

NAPTIP facilitated her return to Nigeria with support from various Civil Society Organisations, and the agency is committed to her full rehabilitation and seeking justice for the abuse she endured.
