American Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was tasered and arrested by police in Miami, Florida, following a confrontation with officers on Thursday evening.
The 29-year-old, who won a 100m bronze medal at the Paris Games last summer, faces charges of battery, resisting a police officer, and breach of the peace.

According to a police report, officers were investigating an unrelated incident when Kerley approached them in an “aggressive manner,” reportedly concerned about his car.
The report states that Kerley resisted arrest and used “evasive movements” to avoid being detained, prompting four officers to wrestle him to the ground.
Police bodycam footage shows Kerley getting back on his feet before being tasered, causing him to fall to the ground again. He was then taken into custody.
Miami media reported that Kerley appeared in court on Friday and has since been released on bail. His lawyer described the incident as a “total misunderstanding.”

Kerley is a decorated sprinter, having won 100m silver at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and gold at the 2022 World Championships.
He also holds world titles in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays and boasts the sixth-fastest 100m time in history at 9.76 seconds.
