Ondo Man Remanded for Allegedly Strangling Father to Death

- Sunday Abilewa allegedly killed his father.

An Ondo State Magistrate Court in Akure has ordered the remand of 32-year-old Sunday Abilewa for allegedly murdering his 68-year-old father, Abu Abilewa, on December 31, 2024.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred at Eberi quarters, Isua Akoko, Ondo State.

According to police prosecutor Abdulateef Suleiman, Sunday Abilewa approached his father, demanding a new motorcycle.
When the elder Abilewa refused, the situation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the accused strangling his father.
Suleiman disclosed that the accused’s mother tried to intervene but was unable to save the deceased.
He added that Sunday was allegedly under the influence of hard drugs during the altercation.
The prosecutor stated, “The offence contravenes Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.” Suleiman requested the court to remand the defendant in a custodial center while awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. F.A. Akinboboye did not take the defendant’s plea.
She ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s recommendations.
The case was adjourned to February 25, 2025, for further mention.
