The Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai has warned residents to remain vigilant during the Eid el Kabir celebrations, citing intelligence reports suggesting possible attempts by terrorists to launch attacks during the festive period.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Eko Hot Blog reports that the command said there were indications that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters could attempt isolated attacks targeting civilians.

According to the statement, the threats may involve the use of suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, especially in crowded locations and areas with high population concentration.

The warning comes ahead of the 2026 Eid el Kabir celebration scheduled for Wednesday.
The task force said troops had already been deployed to strategic and vulnerable locations across the North East, while surveillance and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets had been activated to enhance security.
It added that patrol operations had been intensified, with security agencies working closely with the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilance groups to prevent attacks during the celebration.
Residents were advised to observe Eid activities close to their homes and familiar environments where possible and avoid large public gatherings.
The command also urged the public to remain alert in busy places such as markets, motor parks, banks and prayer grounds, while encouraging prompt reporting of suspicious persons, abandoned objects and unusual activities to security agencies.

Citizens were further advised to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening exercises, avoid unnecessary night movement and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
Operation Hadin Kai also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support security efforts by encouraging residents to provide credible information.
The military reassured residents of the North East that troops remain prepared and committed to ensuring peaceful Eid celebrations across the region.
