Speaking to journalists, the Katagum Zonal Commander, Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, said the arrests followed complaints from residents and some concerned members of the group who alerted authorities to the activity.
Khairan explained that preliminary investigations suggested the individuals involved allegedly organised the arrangement privately and attempted to defend it using claims of spiritual direction.
“There is no justification for such actions in Islam. Marriage must follow established religious principles, and what they engaged in goes against Sharia teachings,” he said.

He noted that the suspects were arrested by the command’s enforcement team, Operation Ko Ba Kobo, after intelligence reports exposed the alleged practice.
The commander warned that the agency would continue to act against behaviours considered contrary to religious teachings and community values, while urging residents to report suspicious activities.
Reacting to the incident, the leader of the Wuddadu group, Malam Sagir Bashir, distanced the association from the conduct, describing it as the actions of a few individuals.
Bashir said the group had previously tried to stop the behaviour through counselling and repeated warnings, but the individuals allegedly continued secretly.
According to him, the matter was eventually reported to the Hisbah Command to safeguard the image and moral standing of the community.
