Three Killed in Taraba Church Clash Over Leadership Dispute
Three people have been confirmed dead after a violent clash between members of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) and the Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Taraba State. The incident happened on Sunday in Karim-Lamido Local Council.
The crisis reportedly began when one faction unsealed a church building for service, provoking the other group to do the same. This led to a confrontation that turned deadly.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the violence, stating that three people were killed during the clash. He also revealed that six suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Usman assured residents that security measures had been put in place to prevent further violence in the area. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely to maintain peace.
The conflict stems from a long-standing leadership dispute between UMCN and GMC. The GMC had recently split from UMCN, worsening tensions between the two groups.
To control the situation, the state government had earlier sealed off church properties to prevent further clashes. However, Sunday’s events show that the dispute remains unresolved.
Some worshippers expressed frustration, saying the government’s failure to resolve the leadership crisis is threatening peace and security in the area. They called for urgent action to end the conflict.
