There’s no doubt that netizens awake at the time the news broke would be taken aback to realise that an old folk could be as vibrant to clinch the silver medal. No one would have seen that coming.
And the reason is not far-fetched as the much younger folks had kept the sporting headlines buzzing like a beehive in the past few weeks from Asisat Oshoala to Tobi Amusan and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye. In addition to the list of exceptional sportsmen doing Nigeria proud in their core profession are the likes of Israel Adesanya, Kamarudeen Umar, Anthony Joshuah and now Tunde Disu who is reputable security personnel.
Amidst the celebrations which elicited unfettered excitement across the country, the media space was awash with encomiums from well-wishers both at the national, state and local levels in commemoration of such global accomplishment.
It is, therefore, also in order to celebrate the unimaginable feat of the exceptionally smart
IRT Commander, Tunji Disu, for putting his beloved hometown and the fish basket of Lagos, Epe, on the world map through his monumental exploits at the US Open on July 31, 2022.
The commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) DCP Tunji Disu, had raked in a silver medal in the Judo competition in the United States of America at the 33rd US Open which was held at Brookline, Massachusetts.
Not only did the upright and professional cop make his country home proud by winning silver in the Judo Fighter category on Sunday, but he also made Lagos State, the Center of Excellence and Nigeria, the most populous black nation and African giant proud.
EKO HOT BLOG recalls that DCP Disu, an Epe Prince and son to the highly respected Late Oba MD Kazeem, the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, was appointed as head of IRT following the indictment of Abba Kyari by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) resulting in his suspension and prosecution.
Born on April 13, 1966, on Lagos Island, Disu joined the force on June 18, 1992, as Cadet ASP, trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kaduna.
It’s no gain saying that he made a tremendous impact on securing lives and properties in Lagos when he was the commander of the effective and efficient Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the state through “Hot Spot Policing” which involved positioning patrol vehicles at strategic black spots locations.
At Rivers State CID, he served as Deputy Head of the unit. He was a commander of the Nigeria police contingent to the African Union (AU) peace-keeping mission to the troubled Darfur region, Sudan.
