Orji, who noted he was moved by the confidence reposed in him by the people, framed his candidacy as a commitment to building a constituency that works for all citizens.
He described himself not just as an aspirant, but as a “voice committed to development” and the advancement of the Ikwuano/Umuahia people through strategic representation in the Green Chamber.
This declaration marks Orji’s second attempt at the seat. He previously contested for the same position during the 2023 general elections, where he lost to the incumbent, Hon. Obi Aguocha of the Labour Party.

By declaring early and switching to the APC, Orji appears to be positioning himself for a robust campaign to reclaim political momentum in the region.
“I understand the demands of leadership and the urgency of delivering results that truly impact lives,” Orji told his supporters.
His entry into the race is expected to spark intense political activity within the APC and the broader Abia political space, given his history as a key figure in the state’s legislative history.
Orji’s move to the APC is seen by political analysts as a strategic effort to strengthen the party’s presence in Abia State, which has seen shifting loyalties since the 2023 elections.
His supporters believe his “proven capacity” and name recognition will be vital assets in the upcoming party primaries and the general election.
As the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape, Orji’s declaration sets the stage for what is likely to be one of the most closely watched federal constituency battles in the South East.
