Ahead of the May 21 governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) has assured aspirants of a transparent, free and credible process.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the assurance was given during a meeting with frontline governorship aspirant and philanthropist, Samuel Ajose, popularly known as SMA Gold, who visited the party leadership to formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking after the meeting on Thursday, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the party remained committed to internal democracy and would ensure a level playing field for all aspirants participating in the primary.
According to him, the APC national leadership had already outlined procedures for the conduct of the primary in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Ojelabi described Ajose’s visit as a family meeting, noting that the aspirant had long been a loyal member of the progressive family.
“He came to officially inform the party of his ambition to contest for the office of governor in 2027 and also shared his plans and vision for Lagos State. We assured him that the process would be transparent and fair to every aspirant,” he said.
The party chairman added that the APC would either adopt direct primaries or consensus in selecting its candidate, stressing that whoever emerges with the highest support would become the party’s flagbearer.
He also praised the level of political engagement among APC aspirants across the state, saying it reflected the strength and democratic culture of the party.
Responding, Ajose dismissed rumours suggesting he had stepped down from the race, insisting he remained fully committed to his ambition.

“By the grace of God, I am still in the race. We came to seek assurance from the party leadership that the primary will be conducted fairly and transparently, and we are satisfied with the assurances given to us,” he said.
Ajose also pledged loyalty to the party and promised to abide by the outcome of the primary process.
“The party is supreme and whatever decision the party eventually takes, we will respect it,” he added.
The governorship aspirant further declared that his political structure, known as the SMA movement, would mobilise massive support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
According to him, the movement is targeting nothing less than 3.5 million votes for the President in Lagos State.
