A video shared online showed a flooded Lekki road, with a motorist claiming the waters accumulated after just 30 minutes of rain.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, took to X to calm residents, stating that the situation is short-lived. “While there was rainfall on the Island and a temporary tidal lock-up occurred, this is a short-term situation. As the tide recedes in the next few minutes, the water will discharge naturally and conditions will improve,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, also provided an update on traffic conditions via X, confirming that the flash floods at Chisco Elegushi have worsened congestion, extending to the Elf area and Jakande First Gate. He assured motorists that the waters will soon drain and traffic flow will improve, urging road users to follow official channels for real-time updates.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution while commuting and to stay tuned to official updates as teams work to restore normal conditions across affected areas.
