Eko Hot Blog reports that two members of staff of the United States Consulate in Nigeria who were kidnapped during the attack on their convoy at Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State have been rescued by security operatives.
Recall that the convoy was attacked on Tuesday while traveling in advance of a planned visit by the US Mission personnel to a US-funded flood response project in Anambra.

In a statement on Friday, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the two remaining victims abducted during the attack had been rescued unhurt.
Although their names and identities were not disclosed, Ikenga said they were rescued unhurt by the joint security forces in the early hours of Friday.
“In the early hours of Friday, May 19, 2023, the joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy attack along Atani/Osamela road in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State,” the statement reads.
“Operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated, please.”
Meanwhile, the US has condemned the attack on its staff members.
In a statement on Wednesday, US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said his country was working with the Nigerian law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.

“We do not yet know the motive for the attack, but we have no indications at this time that it was targeted against our Mission. The assailants killed at least four members of the convoy and U.S. Mission personnel are working urgently with Nigerian counterparts to ascertain the location and condition of the members of the convoy who are unaccounted for,” he said.
