Lagos Fire and Rescue Services Save Woman from Chemical Explosion in Agege
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services on Friday evening rescued a female adult from a chemical-induced inferno.
According to a statement from the agency’s director, Margaret Adeseye, the fire broke out following the explosion of multiple kegs containing an unknown chemical, which were stored unsafely in an open, fenced land. The explosion was likely caused by heat radiation due to the chemicals being exposed to direct sunlight.
“Following the report of the incident which was made at 6:38 pm on Friday, the Agege Fire and Rescue crew of the agency brought the situation under control after dousing the fire from the explosion of sets of varying kegs sizes containing unknown chemical stored in an open fenced-gated land,” Adeseye said.
She added that while investigation into the ownership and type of chemical is ongoing, it was discovered that heat radiation is attributed to the explosion of the chemical which were kept unprotected from sunlight.
According to her, the rescued lady is, however, responding to treatment from sustained first degree burns.
