EKO HOT BLOG reports that the venue was decorated in the party’s colours of red, green, white and blue, with organisers putting finishing touches on the stage and other facilities ahead of the event.
Party flags were mounted across the square, while designated voting areas were arranged with clearly marked pavilions for delegates from across the country.
APC officials said more than 8,000 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to attend the convention.
The delegates will be led by President Bola Tinubu, alongside 31 state governors and members of the Federal Executive Council.
Security was tightened around the venue, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps deployed to maintain order.
All roads leading to Eagle Square were barricaded, while vehicular movement was restricted, forcing some residents to walk to their workplaces.
Members of the Convention Venue Committee, chaired by Dapo Abiodun, were seen inspecting facilities ahead of the event.
The ruling party said it would adopt a consensus approach in selecting officials during the convention, describing the move as a demonstration of unity and internal cohesion.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the party was fully prepared for the two day event.
“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.
He urged members of the publicity committee to ensure effective communication throughout the convention and emphasised the need to uphold democratic values within the party.
“As party members, we must reflect a significant attribute of our president,” Idris added.
He described the convention as a key milestone for the party as it seeks to strengthen its internal structures and democratic processes.
