Eko Hot Blog reports that the recently renovated and expanded children’s ward at Gbagada General Hospital was commissioned on Wednesday in an event attended by Lagos State officials.
The extensive project was jointly executed by Rotary Club Gbagada and The George Charitable Foundation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, who represented the Deputy Governor, lauded the two organizations for their “commitment to maternal and child healthcare” exemplified by the ward upgrades.
Salu-Hundeyin stated, “This partnership, to me, aims to provide quality healthcare delivery to our children and improve the quality of life of our citizens. This shows that these two organizations’ commitment to maternal and child healthcare is worthy of emulation.”
She also noted, “Today’s event is a testimony and response to government’s clarion call to non-state actors to partner with the state as we strive to make life more meaningful for our people.”
The SSG emphasized the government’s appreciation for interventions by private groups like Rotary Club and The George Foundation. “As we all know, no government in the world possesses all the necessary capacity to fulfill the developmental needs of our people,” she acknowledged.
Salu-Hundeyin affirmed, “This is why our government will continue to provide the enabling environment for such organizations to operate, thrive, and contribute immensely to the overall development of our state and country.”
Highlighting the administration’s healthcare efforts, she said Lagos State has undertaken extensive rehab and renovation of health centers, invested in medical infrastructure, and created six primary healthcare districts.
Salu-Hundeyin praised the free antenatal care for pregnant women, 25% transport fare reduction, feeding programs, and new medical university as other key achievements.
In closing, she declared, “Lagos is a fertile ground and I wave their handshake that we may build together the city of our dreams where lives are healthy, happy and prosperous.”
