- President Donald Trump confirmed on Fox News that the CIA briefed him on the sexual orientation of Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
- Trump noted that the claim puts the leader “off to a bad start” in Iran, where homosexuality is a capital offense under Sharia law.
- The President also questioned if the younger Khamenei is still alive, as he has not been seen in public since the strikes that killed his father.
In an interview on Thursday, March 26, 2026, President Donald Trump made a startling claim regarding the personal life of Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
Eko Hot Blog reports that when asked directly if the CIA had informed him that the leader is gay, Trump responded, “Well, they did say that, but I don’t know if it was only them. I think a lot of people are saying that.”

The President added that such a detail would be highly problematic for a leader in a country with some of the world’s harshest anti-LGBTQ+ laws.
The claims follow a series of reports from the New York Post suggesting that U.S. intelligence agencies possess human-source intelligence about the leader’s past.
According to these assessments, Mojtaba Khamenei’s late father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, allegedly harbored fears that his son’s sexuality made him an unsuitable successor.
Sources cited in the reports suggest the intelligence is considered “credible” by American spy agencies and includes details about long-term relationships and behavior during a recent hospitalization.
Beyond the personal allegations, Trump used the interview to cast doubt on the very stability of the Iranian regime.

He pointed out that Mojtaba Khamenei has not made a public appearance since the commencement of “Operation Epic Fury,” the U.S.-led military action that killed his father.
“Every once in a while, you see a statement made, but we don’t know if he’s living,” Trump remarked.
While Tehran has dismissed the claims as Western propaganda and misinformation, the allegations have added a new layer of psychological warfare to the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
