EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by its Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, on Monday evening, arrested prominent members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state, Kunle Poly and Sego.

The arrest was effected at a meeting where the two NURTW members along with some other stakeholders converged.

RRS in a statement, on Monday, said the clashes have intermittently crippled commercial activities in the area.

The statement added that ”the recent clash which occurred last week Thursday reportedly led to the death of a victim while commercial activities were paralyzed in the area for some time until a joint team of police officers were deployed immediately to the area to restore peace.

”Kunle Poly and Sego are presently being transferred to Zone II, Onikan, Lagos State.”

This online media platform recalls that two factional hoodlums popularly known as area boys clashed in the area around 12pm on Thursday, forcing several traders at the bustling commercial centre to abruptly shut down their shops.

Videos of the clash went viral on Friday, with one of the clips showing a bloodied youth being carried away in a wheelbarrow.

However, normalcy was restored to the area on Friday as policemen and soldiers were stationed in strategic points around the scene but commercial activities had yet to fully return.

Kunle Poly had, on Sunday, accused the National Union Of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Lagos State Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as, MC Oluomo, of being the brain behind the renewed violence on Lagos Island.

Kunle Poly said he was out of Lagos when the crisis started but had to immediately make a detour back to Lagos after the information about the clash got to him.

He said a lot of his boys were killed for refusing to join his (Mc Oluomo) group.
