Sanwo-Olu Launches ‘ CAP ‘ to Enhance Building Safety

On March 10th, 2025, Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Certified Accreditors’ Programme (CAP) through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in Ikeja.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of public-private collaboration in the building industry, stating that it represents a transformative step toward ensuring building safety and reducing the risk of collapses.
The CAP is intended not only as a regulatory measure but also as a means to drive sustainable growth by capitalizing on private sector expertise.

LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Owodunni Oki highlighted that the event marked a significant demonstration of the administration’s dedication to the THEMES+ development agenda.
This agenda focuses on inclusive governance through public participation, ultimately leading to the CAP launch by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The CAP aims to transform Lagos into a more livable, sustainable, and resilient city by adhering strictly to its guidelines and aligning building standards with globally recognized best practices.
Oki commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for implementing various policy reforms in the building industry, elevating Lagos as a model of excellence.
These reforms have fortified legal building control, ensuring compliance with the state’s building code and regulations.
Consequently, there has been a substantial decrease in building collapses and improved property protection through enhanced monitoring, enforcement, and data management.
